Security and Livelihood Challenges in Maru, Zamfara State

My field observations and community interactions in Maru, Zamfara State indicate that persistent insecurity continues to affect daily life. Many residents reported that fear of armed bandit attacks has limited farming activities, especially in remote settlements where access to farmlands is increasingly risky. As a result, some households have reduced cultivation, raising concerns about food security and income.

Some community members continue to rely on informal security arrangements and traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms to manage tensions and maintain stability. However, residents noted that these local efforts require more support to improve safety and confidence among the population.

There is a need for sustained security presence and community-based peacebuilding initiatives to reduce vulnerability and support the restoration of normal livelihood activities in Maru, and surrounding communities in Nigeria.
